Austin Seekins was selected by the faculty of the Logsdon School of Theology to receive the 2023 Hancock-Potter Award for Vocational Ministry. Reflecting the Logsdon experience, this award recognizes a Baptist student who has a commitment to vocational ministry, excellence in academics, and an understanding of historic Baptist principles.

Austin Seekins hold his award while wearing a red shirt.“Receiving the Hancock-Potter Vocational Ministry Award means so much to me,” said Seekins. He added, “It represents my commitment to Christian ministry both educationally and vocationally. It also stands as a testament not just to my achievements but to the commitments of others who have poured into me over these years. I am blessed to receive such an award.”

The Hancock-Potter Award for Vocational Ministry was established in 2017 by Dr. Omer J. Hancock, Jr. and his wife Judy (Judith Elaine Potter) in gratitude for the heritage provided by their parents.  Dr. Hancock came to Hardin-Simmons from the pastorate in order to serve as the Director of In-Service training from 1981-2014.

Dr. Larry McGraw, Associate Dean and Phillips Professor of Bible, said, “The Logsdon School of Theology faculty sees Austin Seekins as a good example of an undergraduate student who combines academic excellence and church-related ministry. His consistency in the classroom and service to others as a practical way of sharing the gospel reflect a student who is deserving of receiving the Hancock-Potter Award.”

Well done, Austin!
